The Isely Information Project: Of-By-For-Ourselves in the Digital Age

This project provides information about the "Kansas Iselys". We descend from Christian H. Isely, and Elise Dubach Isely.

In 2024, this site was hacked while being hosted at Hostgator. A rebuild is in progress with hosting at DreamHost. There will be some dead links during the rebuild process.

The History of this Project

In 1939 the descendents of Christian and Elise produced a compilation of family biography and photographs entitled "Isely-Dubach Of-By-For Ourselves", which they described as the Isely-Dubach Photo Album and Who's Who. Twenty-five bound copies were produced (for 64 living descendents). Images from this 1939 publication are to be available on-line, TBD.

In 1968 Christian and Elise's grandson,Merrill Isely, produced an update of Of-By-For-Ourselves entitled, "For the Grandchildren of the Grandchildren. 1968." One hundred copies were produced. It contained reproductions of portions of the text in the 1939 book and a contemporary compilation of Christian and Elise's descendents. Images from this 1968 publication are to be available on-line, TBD. In 1996, John Mattox produced a hypertext data base from Merrill's 1968 Isely census. Here is the entry for Christian Isely and here is here is the index.

We plan to attempt to publish a complete census of descendents and an update of Family activities by the close of 2026, entitled, "Of-By-For-Ourselves: For the Grandchildren of the Grandchildren of the Grandchildren: 2026".

Mattox geneology (John Mattox's Father's Family)

Here are video records of the Kansas Iselys.

Wikitree offers a great way tob share geneology which we have begun to incorporate. Here are some of John's ancestors with Wikitree entrys.

There is also Isely information on Wikipedia, e.g., an entry for Philip Isely.

We use the Isely extended-family e-mail list-serve to communicate.

For information on other Isely (Iseli) families, see the Erich Iseli's Geneology Web Site.

We also have used a facebook group to connect: Isely Family Reunion - of-by-for-ourselves 21st century.
