Barbara Elaine was born on 28 Dec 1941, in Winfield, Kansas to Lyman Johnson and Sarah Elise Isely Johnson.
She has a M.M.Ed. in music from the University of North Texas.
She changed fields and has an M.A.(1975) and Ph.D.(1981) in sociology from the University of Oregon. She taught and held the position of Women in International ?? Coordinator at Oregon State University. She is now an international consultant in South Asia and West Africa. Her work is applied social research (doing and advising), training, project design in health, agriculture, engineering, and education.
